Nitehawks Qualify for Regional USATF Junior Olympic Competition

November 12, 2006 -- Amherst, NH

The Nitehawks qualified ten runners to move on to the USATF Regional Junior Olympic competition in Queensbury, NY by running through the mud and the rain at the New England meet at Freestyle Farm in Amherst, New Hampshire.

The team was led by Max LaChance of Lunenburg who won the boys Bantam Division 3000m race by 13 seconds to take the gold medal and lead the Bantam Boys team to a bronze medal in the team competition.  He was joined by Elijah Bucher of Wayland who sloshed quickly up and down the hilly course to come in 2nd in the team competition and 4th overall.  Matt Fischetti of Groton followed pace for the Nitehawks placing 4th in the team competition and 7th overall.  Anthony Aguirre of Lexington then came up big with a 22nd team placement (32nd overall) to clinch the Nitehawks a bronze medal in team competition and a trip to Queensbury.  His younger brother, Lucas (35th team, 56th overall) and Nicholas Dunsmoor of Groton (36th team, 57th overall), rounded out the team scoring for the club in this race.

The Youth Division saw Brett Baker of the Nitehawks run to 16th place and the Midget race saw Nitehawks Arthur Whitehead, Erik Cedrone, and Matthew Barnes place 18th, 19th and 21st respectively to qualify for the regional meet (top 25 individuals and top three teams qualify to move on).

Other Nitehawk performances included Bantam girls Olivia Dunsmoor (40th) and Cara Fischetti (43rd) and youth boy, Joseph Biasi (32nd).
