FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Nitehawks Soar to 2006 USATF NationalsNovember 19, 2006 -- Queensbury, NY The Nitehawks capped their local cross-country season today in Queensbury, New York at the USATF Region 1 Junior Olympic Cross-Country Championships. At this meet, Bantam Runner, Max LaChance of Lunenburg, ran to 1st place over the 3000m course in a time of 10:50.13, seven seconds ahead of 2nd place, to lead the Nitehawks Bantam Boys team to a surprising 3rd place team finish and qualifying for the JO Nationals in Spokane, Washington on December 9th. “We were all pleasantly surprised at the outcome today,” grinned Coach Ivanov. “We figured we would probably come in fifth as a team but, Max, Matthew, Eli, Anthony and Lucas all stepped it up today and qualified for nationals.” The bantam boys were led by Max LaChance who went out front early and never looked back winning this race the same way he won the New England meet at Freestyle Farm in Amherst, NH on November 12th and the AAU District Championships on November 5th in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Finishing 4th in team scoring (and 10th overall) was Matthew Fischetti of Groton, who surged past three runners in the last 200m with a huge kick. He was followed closely by Eli Bucher of Wayland (6th in team scoring and 15th overall) and Anthony Aguirre of Lexington (29th in team scoring and 53rd overall). The youngest member of the team, Lucas Aguirre (age 6) of Lexington closed out the team scoring for the club, running to 32nd in team scoring (71st overall) and clinching the 3rd place finish for the team. The next step for the Nitehawks Bantam Boys team is to fly to Spokane for the USATF Junior Olympic Nationals where Max LaChance is a returning All-American (from 2005) in that race. Two other Nitehawk runners ran in the Midget Boys division later that morning: Erik Cedrone (32nd) and Arthur Whitehead (52nd), who ran in a field of over 100 registered runners.
