Nitehawks Earn All-American Honors at 2006 Nationals

December 2, 2006 -- Orlando, FL and December 9, 2006 -- Spokane, WA

The Nitehawks finished their 2006 cross-country season today in Spokane, Washington at the USATF National Junior Olympic Cross-Country Championships.  At this meet, Bantam runner Max LaChance of Lunenburg, ran to All-American honors, finishing in 12th place over the 3000m course in a time of 11:25.16.  Max was the first Region 1 competitor to finish in a very large, strong field.

A week prior to this event, another Nitehawk ran his way to All-American honors at the AAU National Championships at the Disney World of Sports complex in Orlando, Florida.  Brett Baker of Wayland completed the 4000m course in a time of 15:07.75 to finish in 25th in the Sub-Youth division.

In addition, the Nitehawks had four other competitors placing high in this meet.  The Sub-Midget boys ran through the hot Florida sun as Nitehawk Arthur Whitehead of Concord covered the 3000m course in a time of 11:56.09 to finish 45th in the nation.  The Bantam boys were represented by Elijah Bucher of Wayland who cruised in at 51st in the nation with a time of 12:09.29.  The Sub-Bantam boys then finished things off as brothers Anthony Aguirre of Lexington (102nd in 13:53.80) and the youngest member of the team, Lucas Aguirre (141st in 16:16.70) closed out the best day the club has seen at the nationals in their history.

The next step for the Nitehawks is to begin training for the indoor season.  The Nitehawks are a non-profit organization providing sports opportunities in track and field and soccer to kids in the Metro-West Boston area (from Lowell to Ashland and Arlington to Lunenburg).  More information about the club and contacts can be found at www.thenitehawks.org.
